11 December 2023 – The Netherlands
The new highly skilled migrant minimum salary requirements for 2024 are announced now!
If your employee has a nationality from outside of the European Union and is moving to the Netherlands, often a work and residence permit is needed.
One of the most commonly used permit in the Netherlands is the Highly Skilled Migrant permit.
Nevertheless, a lot of requirements are needed to obtain this permit. The most frequently asked question is: “what salary does this employee need to receive to be eligible for the Highly Skilled Migrant permit?”
For 2024, the government has presented the new salary requirements. The minimum salary will increase with 6.45%, which will be effective from January 1st, 2024.
In the overview below, the salaries have been summed up. It is important to note that this is excluding 8% holiday pay, variable bonuses, and a 13th month that is not paid in 12 equal parts on a monthly basis.
- Highly skilled migrant > 30 years: €5,331.00 gross per month (€5,008.00 in 2023)
- Highly skilled migrant < 30 years: €3,909.00 gross per month (€3,672.00 in 2023)
- Reduced salary criterion: €2,801.00 gross per month (€2,631 in 2023)
- European blue card: €6,245.00 (€5,867 in 2023)
For most cases this means that for all applications that are submitted on or after January 1st, 2024, the new salary requirements must be met. This is also the case for:
- Extension applications
- Short stay work permits requested at the UWV
- Intra-corporate transfers
- Highly skilled migrants who work in the Netherlands while residing in a neighboring EU country
