Brexit implications in Latvia

With the Brexit deadline approaching, UK citizens and their family members are wondering what will happen with their rights to reside, study and work in Latvia. If the UK Parliament approves the Withdraw Agreement, those rights will be safeguard for all citizens, both in the EU countries and in the UK. However, this might differ if there is a no-deal.

In view of a possible no-deal scenario on the Brexit negotiations, Latvia has adopted a political declaration. This declaration ensures that UK citizens legally living in Latvia will receive favourable conditions regarding their stay and employment. At the moment, Latvian government is working on establishing a transition period for UK citizens legally living in Latvia.

Until 31st of December 2020, citizens of the United Kingdom and their family members must apply for a new residence permit in the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA). Please find more information here: https://www.pmlp.gov.lv/en/home/services/information-on-brexit.html.
